FLASH BLUES #103 | DAVID HONEYBOY EDWARDS – Bad Whiskey and Cocaine

FLASH BLUES 103

DAVID HONEYBOY EDWARDS
BAD WHISKEY AND COCAINE

David “Honeyboy” Edwards was one of the last great survivors of Mississippi Delta blues, a musician who personally knew legends such as Robert Johnson and Big Joe Williams.

In FLASH BLUES #103, we revisit Delta Bluesman (1992), released by Earwig Music, an album combining historic recordings made by Alan Lomax in 1942 with later sessions from Chicago and London.

Our Track of the Day is “Bad Whiskey and Cocaine”, recorded in Chicago in 1979, featuring Kansas City Red on drums and Floyd Jones on second acoustic guitar. There are no tricks or unnecessary embellishments here: just a weathered voice, a guitar carrying the spirit of Mississippi, and the kind of raw, uncompromising blues that sounds like it belongs in an old backroom bar. Honeyboy at his finest!
